Questions
Frequently asked questions
The credentials, the examination, preparation and enrolment, providers and employers, and personal data.
About the credentials
Are these regulated qualifications?
No. CBA awards its own professional certifications. They are not regulated qualifications, and CBA is not a regulated awarding organisation.
Are you affiliated with any other certification body?
No. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or equivalent to any other certification body, and we do not use anyone else’s marks. Where we mention another organisation it is for identification only.
What does an employer see when they check my credential?
Your name, the discipline, the level, the scheme version, the date of award, the expiry date and the current status. They need only the credential ID printed on your certificate. They do not see your email address, your score, or any way to browse other holders.
How long is a credential valid?
Three years, then it requires recertification. The expiry date is printed on the certificate and shown on the public verification page from the day it is issued.
The exam
How do I know what will be on the exam?
Each certification examines one discipline in the CBA Standards, which publish its assessment domains, the share of the paper each contributes, and the learning objectives within each. Each discipline also publishes a specimen paper of twelve items, with a written rationale for every option.
The CBA StandardsWho decides the pass mark?
A standard-setting panel of at least three subject-matter experts, using a documented method. Each examination has its own pass mark, set against its own item bank.
How cut scores are setIs the exam supervised?
No. A CBA examination is sat online, at a time of the candidate’s choosing, without a proctor and without an identity check. The paper is assembled at random from the item bank, the timer runs on the server, one voucher permits one attempt, and the answer key is never sent to the browser. The examination integrity policy sets out what these measures do and do not prevent.
Examination integrityWhat if I fail?
You receive a domain-by-domain breakdown of your performance against the blueprint. A re-sit requires a new voucher at the re-sit fee on the certification page. There is no limit on attempts and no waiting period.
Do you offer a pass guarantee?
No. CBA does not offer one and does not permit an Approved Learning Partner to advertise one.
Preparing and enrolling
Can I see the study material before enrolling?
Yes. Each discipline publishes the full contents of its study material — every chapter and lesson, the reading time for each, and where the assessed workbooks fall — and one complete lesson is open to read without an account.
The CBA StandardsDo I have to use CBA’s study material?
The examination can be taken on its own, and candidates are assessed identically however they prepared. At Practitioner and Professional level, however, the assessed workbooks are part of the assessment rather than a study aid, and they are supplied with the study material; an examination pass alone does not produce a credential at those levels. Every certification currently published is at Practitioner or Professional level.
The Competency FrameworkHow long is an exam voucher valid?
Twelve months from issue. One voucher entitles you to one attempt.
Can I get a refund?
Unused examination vouchers are refundable within 30 days of purchase, and study material within 14 days if it has not been accessed. A failed examination is not refundable; a re-sit is available at the re-sit fee. The refund policy is published in full.
Providers and organisations
How do I become an Approved Learning Partner?
Apply through the partner application. We assess instructor credentials, existing quality assurance and fit with the programme blueprints. Approved providers are accredited for named programmes and buy exam vouchers at wholesale.
Apply to become a partnerHow do I check whether a provider is accredited?
Ask us. We will tell you whether a provider holds current accreditation and for which programmes. If an organisation claims accreditation, check with us before relying on it.
Contact CBACan we certify a group of staff?
Yes. Vouchers are available to employers in quantity against an invoice, assigned to named individuals, with twelve months of validity.
Your data
Where is my data held?
Our database and application servers are in Frankfurt, Germany, which is in the European Economic Area, and the UK and EU recognise each other’s data protection regimes as adequate. Two suppliers process outside it — Resend, which sends our email, and Vercel Blob, which stores uploaded files — under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. Your examination record and your credential history never leave Frankfurt. The privacy policy names every processor and says exactly what each one sees.
Will my name appear publicly?
If you hold a credential, yes: your name, the discipline, the level, the scheme version and the dates appear on that credential’s register entry. Nothing else is published, and the register cannot be browsed or searched.
Do you track me across the web?
No. This site sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers. Fonts and icons are served from our own domain, so loading a page here does not disclose your IP address to anyone else. The one exception is paying an invoice: the secure payment link we send opens the payment provider’s own page, which is governed by that provider’s notice rather than ours.
