Relying on a CBA credential
Every CBA credential resolves to a public register entry that a third party can confirm without contacting CBA. This page sets out how to check one, what each level evidences, and how to certify a team against a published standard.
Verification
Confirming an award
A certificate is a document, and a document can be altered. The register is the record, and the certificate is a printout of it. Where the two disagree, the register governs.
- 01
Take the credential ID from the certificate
Every CBA award carries a unique ID in the format CODE-YEAR-NUMBER-CHECK. It is printed on the certificate and quoted on any transcript.
- 02
Enter it in the public register
The register is open, requires no account and no contact with CBA, and returns the holder, the discipline, the level, the date of award, the scheme version in force and whether the credential is current.
- 03
Read what it does not say
A record confirms an assessment was passed on a date, under conditions we publish. It does not evidence experience unless the level requires it, and it does not evidence anything after the expiry date shown. Our examination integrity page sets out what the conditions are and what they do and do not stop.
A specimen record
One credential ID is set aside as a specimen. It returns the holder, discipline, level, scheme version, dates and status, in the form every register entry takes. Its holder name reads “Specimen record — not a person”.
CBA-SPEC-2026-000000-SPECMNIf a credential ID returns no record, the award was not made by CBA. To report a document circulating in CBA’s name, contact us.
Levels
What each level evidences
CBA certifies at three levels of its Competency Framework. The level is determined by the evidence collected before award, and each level states what it does not evidence.
Certificate
- Assessed by
- Written examination against a published blueprint.
- Evidences
- Knowledge of the syllabus at the date of the examination.
- Does not evidence
- Applied skill or professional experience.
Practitioner
- Assessed by
- Examination and assessed applied work, completed in a spreadsheet and checked against a defined tolerance.
- Evidences
- That the holder can carry out the core tasks of the discipline on realistic material.
- Does not evidence
- Professional experience or seniority.
Professional
- Assessed by
- Examination, assessed applied work, and professional experience confirmed by a named referee, with an ethics undertaking.
- Evidences
- That the holder is a practising professional who has demonstrated both knowledge and application.
- Does not evidence
- Performance in any specific role or organisation.
Workforce certification
Certifying a team
Read the blueprint for the programme you are considering: it sets out, domain by domain, the capabilities the certification assesses.
Certify against one standard
Every member of the team is assessed against the same published blueprint for the discipline.
Assessment is independent of teaching
CBA sets and marks the assessment and does not deliver training. Your people may prepare with CBA materials, internally, or not at all, and are assessed identically.
Vouchers in bulk, invoiced
Exam vouchers are available to employers in quantity against an invoice, assigned to named individuals and valid for twelve months.
